The county is surrounded by Boundary County to the North, the state of Montana to the East, Kootenai County to the South and the state of Washington to the West.
The county was named after Edward L. Bonner who established a ferry on the Kootenai River in 1864 near present day Bonners Ferry, ID. which is now the county seat of our neighbor Boundary County
The county seat of Bonner county is Sandpoint.
